Checking current consumption of additional heater: Audi A2

Step-by-step checking current consumption of additional heater for the Audi A2: 13 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

13 steps

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A2 (8Z)

📋 Procedure

  1. Switch off the ignition.
  2. Remove the trim from the bottom of the right "“A”" pillar. General Body Assembly, Interior; Repair group 70
  3. Set the measurement device used for this measurement (e.g. the MultimeterV.A.G 1715/) to current measurement with the use of the current probe (a current of up to a maximum of 105 A is measured).
  4. Place the current probe from an ammeter over the earth lead (A) running to the heating element for additional heater Z35
  5. Read the ammeter value

  1. Spray the ambient temperature sensor G17 (installed in the area of the front bumper ) at an ambient temperature above 5 °C continuously with a cold spray until it drops below -10 °C.
  2. Switch on the ignition.
  3. Read the ambient temperature display in the dash panel insert; it must show a temperature below 0 °C (if necessary, spray the temperature sensor again). [Note: In the case of vehicles without an ambient temperature display in the dash panel insert, you can view the ambient temperature sensor G17 reading in measured value block "“008”" in the Climatronic unit .Refer to the measured value block on the engine control unit to see which cut-in conditions are met for the additional heater. Relevant Workshop Manual, Diesel Direct Injection and Glow Plug System]
  4. Read the ammeter value
  5. Set the maximum heat output on the heater control or the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic E87 (with the Econ button not pressed, the rotary knob for temperature preselection set fully to "“heat”" or temperature preselection "“Hi”").
  6. Start the engine.
  7. Increase the engine speed to approx. 2000 rpm.
  8. Monitor the display on the meter [Note: The resistance of the additional heating element increases sharply during warm-up, and the current flowing via the additional heater decreases. To ensure that the temperature of the ambient temperature sensor G17 remains under +5 °C throughout the test, spray the ambient temperature sensor G17 with cold spray repeatedly. If there is too little current flowing, check the voltage supply, activation and the operation of the two relays for low and high heat output on the basis of the current flow diagram. The engine control unit activates the heating element for additional heater Z35 in 3 stages. Voltage is applied to the contacts in the connector (B) as follows for this purpose.Voltage is applied to one contact for speed "“1”" (display in the measured value block, e.g. "“01”").In the case of speed "“2”", speed "“1”" is deactivated, and voltage is applied to the other two contacts (display in the measured value block, e.g. "“10”").In the case of speed "“3”", speed "“1”" is connected to speed "“2”" (display in the measured value block, e.g. "“11”"). Relevant Workshop Manual, Diesel Direct Injection and Glow Plug System; Repair group 01 and]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
