Checking and adjusting rest position and idle motion of sensor plate — AUDI
Checking and adjusting rest position and idle motion of sensor plate on Audi: factory workshop procedure for engines 6A, ABB, ACE, NG.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
Test requirement:
Engine oil temperature at least 50 °C
Test sequence
Operate starter for approx. 10 seconds to build up control pressure.
or
Press switch on remote control for approx. 10 seconds (connecting remote control V.A.G 1348/3A with adapter lead V.A.G 1348/3-2 => Page
25-109
).
Detach air intake elbow.
Checking rest position
Top edge of sensor plate must be below tapered edge of venturi (dimension -a-).
Dimension a = 1.9 + 1.1 mm
Adjusting rest position
Unfasten hose clamps of air intake elbow.
Unfasten retainer tab -2- of air intake hose at headlight cover.
Press both retainers to rear and pull off lamp cover -3- upwards.
Screw out the two cross-head bolts -1- and detach right section of lamp cover.
Unfasten clamps all round air cleaner housing.
Pull off mixture control unit with upper part of air cleaner housing upwards.
Take out filter element.
Adjust rest position of sensor plate at adjusting screw -arrow- such that ...
... top edge of sensor plate is below tapered edge of venturi (dimension -a-).
Dimension a = 1.9 + 1.1 mm
Checking idle motion of sensor plate
Idle motion refers to the clearance between control plunger and adjusting lever -right arrow- measured on side of sensor plate facing fuel distributor -left arrow-.
Operate starter for approx. 10 seconds to build up control pressure.
or
Press switch on remote control for approx. 10 seconds (connecting remote control V.A.G 1348/3A with adapter lead V.A.G 1348/3-2 => Page
25-109
).
Lift sensor plate slightly until resistance is felt.
Min. idle motion: Palpable clearance
Max. idle motion: As far as tapered edge of
venturi = 2.1 mm
If idle motion is not OK:
Adjust idle motion at fuel distributor.
Adjusting idle motion at fuel distributor
Set idle motion of sensor plate e.g. using Hazet tool 2566 at stop bolt for control plunger.
Alteration to dimension -a-:
Screw in = Greater idle motion
Screw out = Less idle motion
1/4 turn = approx. 1.3 mm at sensor plate
Check idling speed, CO content and ignition point => Page
25-93
.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
