Audi 80/100 V6 14 V, AAH/ABC — AUDI
Audi 80/100 V6 14 V, AAH/ABC on Audi: 43 steps, engines AAH, ABC, AEJ. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Timing belt work on the Audi 80 and 100 with the 2.6 and 2.8 V6 (AAH, ABC, AEJ) follows the older Audi V6 pattern: the TDC sensor is swapped for a locking pin and the camshafts are locked, so both banks are held while the belt comes off. The camshaft gearwheels are slackened so they turn freely without play, the tensioner is loosened and the belt changed, then the tensioner is turned to set belt tension with the engine cold. The marks are checked again with the tools refitted, the locking tools are removed and the rest goes back in reverse order. Two things decide it: never turn the engine backwards, and have the radio security code to hand before the battery goes off.
🧭 Before you start
Note the radio code, then lock the crankshaft with the pin in place of the TDC sensor and lock the camshafts. Slacken the camshaft gearwheels so they rotate without play, loosen the tensioner and fit the new belt, turning the tensioner to set tension with the engine cold. Tighten the gearwheels, check the timing marks again with the tools refitted, remove all locking tools and refit the remaining parts in reverse order.
Fits: platform codes 2.6, V6, |, 2.8
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
- Special tools named: locking pin
Don't miss
- Never turn the engine against its normal direction of rotation.
- Adjust the timing belt only with the engine cold.
- Check the radio security code before disconnecting the battery.
- Recheck the timing marks with the special tools refitted before final assembly.

📋 Procedure
- Loosen the camshaft gearwheels. Ensure the gearwheels rotate without play
- Note: Be aware of security codes on radios
- Turn the tensioner to adjust the timing belt tension
- Replace the TDC sensor with a locking pin (special tool)
- Never turn the engine in the direction opposite to that of normal operation
- Lock the camshafts
- Note: The engine must be cold before timing belt adjustment
- Check the timing marks again
- Refit the special tools
- Loosen the tensioner
- Remove all the locking tools
- Refit all other parts in the reverse order of removal

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
