Aligning propshaft, Crafter 4MOTION with Achleitner four-wheel drive — AUDI

Aligning propshaft, Crafter 4MOTION with Achleitner four-wheel drive on Audi: 15 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Checking and correcting propshaft alignment on the Crafter 4MOTION with the Achleitner four-wheel-drive conversion, covering the chassis codes listed below. Nothing major comes off: a protractor is set on the propshaft and then on the transfer box flange, and the two readings are compared. If the tilt angle is above 1°, the centre bearing is shimmed one bolt at a time with spacers and rechecked, then slid sideways until a steel square shows the shaft running at 90°. The result depends on clean measuring points: keep the protractor off the balancing weights, and take the square reading at the rear universal joint as specified. Expect to repeat the check with a different spacer before it is right.

15 steps

🧭 Before you start

Read the angle with the protractor on the propshaft, then on the transfer box flange. If the difference exceeds 1°, loosen the centre bearing bolts, fit spacers one bolt at a time, tighten and measure again, changing spacers as needed. Finally loosen the bolts, set a steel square on the shaft at the rear joint, slide the centre bearing until the shaft is at 90° and tighten the bolts.

Fits: platform codes 2EA, 2ED, 2EH, 2EX, 2EB, 2EE, 2EK, 2FC, 2FF, 2FL, 2FZ, 2FG, 2FM

Don't miss

  • Do not rest the protractor on the propshaft balancing weights; the reading will be wrong.
  • Correction is needed only when the tilt angle exceeds 1°.
  • Swap one bolt and spacer at a time so the centre bearing never hangs loose.
  • Take the steel-square measurement at the rear universal joint of the propshaft.
  • Recheck alignment after every spacer change before final tightening.

📋 Procedure

  1. Fit protractor3021 onto propshaft. [Note: The protractor3021 must not be placed on the balancing weights of the propshaft.]
  2. Align vial and read off scale value.
  3. Fit protractor3021 on flange of transfer box.
  4. Align vial and read off scale value again.
  5. If the tilt angle is higher than 1°, the propshaft must be adjusted.

  1. Loosen bolts (arrows) from centre bearing (1).
  2. Unscrew one bolt (arrows) and insert spacer.
  3. Start bolt.
  4. Unscrew second bolt and insert spacer.
  5. Tighten bolts.
  6. Check alignment of propshaft again and install a different spacer if necessary.
  7. Loosen bolts (arrows).
  8. Fit steel square (1) on propshaft. [Note: The measurement must be performed at the rear part of the propshaft universal joint.]
  9. Move centre bearing in (direction of arrows) so that propshaft is aligned at right angles (90°).
  10. Tighten bolts (1).

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
