📋 Procedure

  1. Remove engine cover panel .
  2. Release hose clip (3) and detach air hose. [Note: Disregard (items 1, 2).]
  3. Disconnect vacuum line to vacuum unit for turbine changeover at turbine changeover valve N529(arrow).
  4. Connect hand vacuum pumpVAS 6213 and pressure control valveVAS 6342 to disconnected vacuum line and connection "“II”" of turbocharger tester V.A.G 1397A, as shown in illustration.
  5. Close pressure control valveVAS 6342.

  1. Move adjuster ring (2) on hand vacuum pumpVAS 6213 to select "“vacuum”".
  2. Switch on turbocharger testerV.A.G 1397A and set sliding switch to position "“II”".
  3. On vehicle diagnostic tester select function 02-Measured values in Guided Fault Finding 01-Engine electronics.
  4. Select measured value Bypass valve turbocharger hp turbine inlet, raw voltage from list.
  5. Operate hand vacuum pumpVAS 6213 until turbocharger testerV.A.G 1397A indicates the following value:
  6. Read voltage level off vehicle diagnostic tester:
  7. Check setting by operating hand vacuum pumpVAS 6213 until pressure tester of VAS 6213 indicates the following value: [Note: The turbocharger testerV.A.G 1397A cannot display values greater than 580 mbar.]
  8. Read voltage level off vehicle diagnostic tester:
  9. Remove catalytic converter .
  10. Vent system via pressure control valveVAS 6342 so that vacuum reading drops to approx. 100 mbar. [Note: Counterhold operating rod (2) when loosening lock nut (3).]
  11. Loosen lock nut (3) using crow foot wrench.
  12. Unclip securing clip (1) and detach operating rod from adjusting lever.
  13. Lengthen or shorten upper part of operating rod (2) by turning it about its own axis. [Note: A half turn of the operating rod (2) corresponds to a change in voltage of 68 mV.]
  14. Slide operating rod (2) onto adjusting lever.
  15. Repeat test with hand vacuum pumpVAS 6213 and vehicle diagnostic tester. [Note: Counterhold operating rod (2) when tightening lock nut (3).]
  16. If specification is attained, fit securing clip (1) and tighten lock nut (3).
  17. Check setting again by operating hand vacuum pumpVAS 6213 until pressure tester of VAS 6213 indicates the following value: [Note: The turbocharger testerV.A.G 1397A cannot display values greater than 580 mbar.]
  18. Read voltage level off vehicle diagnostic tester:
  19. Install catalytic converter .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
