Removing and installing power and control electronics for electric drive — VW

Removing and installing power and control electronics for electric drive on VW: 42 steps, 5 torque figures, engines CUKB, CUKC.

Removing the power and control electronics JX1 of the plug-in hybrid Passat B8 (codes 3G2 and 3G5) with CUKB and CUKC engines. Nothing is touched until the high-voltage system has been de-energised and the battery earth disconnected with the ignition off. Coolant is drained, the expansion tank moved aside and the strut removed, then the high-voltage cable for charging unit P25 is released through its two-stage locking detents. The plenum cover and bulkhead are only partly freed around the relevant bolt. Under the covers, the PX1 and PX2 harnesses, potential equalisation line, coolant hoses and the positive and earth wires are taken off before JX1 is lifted at the front and pulled out of its base retainer. A renewed unit must be adapted to the immobiliser, and the safety cover with its seal is always renewed.

🧭 Before you start

De-energise the high-voltage system, disconnect the battery earth and drain coolant. Remove the expansion tank, strut and P25 cable, partly release plenum cover and bulkhead, and remove covers, high-voltage harnesses, coolant hoses and power wires. Unbolt JX1, lift it at the front and pull it out. Refit, refill coolant, adapt if renewed and re-energise.

Fits: VW Passat B8 (3G, 2014–)

  • Opens: coolant
  • Renewed: safety cover with seal

Don't miss

  • De-energise the high-voltage system before any work begins.
  • Renew the safety cover with its seal after each removal.
  • Clamp the coolant hoses with 3094 before pulling them off JX1.
  • A renewed JX1 must be adapted to the immobiliser.
  • Release the P25 connector in two stages via its locking detents; do not force it.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
