Removing and installing front fuel tanks, natural gas, engine code BSX — VW
Removing and installing front fuel tanks, natural gas, engine code BSX on VW: 48 steps, engines BSX, CDGA.
On the Touran I EcoFuel with the natural gas engine BSX, the front gas tanks are carried on a support under the floor together with the petrol tank, and this procedure lowers them out. Gas pressure is released, the battery disconnected, and the exhaust and underbody covers removed. Inside the car, the rear bench and carpet come out so the tank valve connectors can be reached and the mechanical shut-off valves on all tanks closed. The high-pressure lines are loosened carefully to vent the remaining gas, then plugged. The petrol tank is lifted out of the support and strapped up, and the support is lowered on the jack with all lines watched. Leak testing and a gas system test after refitting are mandatory.
🧭 Before you start
Release gas pressure, disconnect the battery, remove the exhaust pipe and underbody covers and close all shut-off valves. From inside, remove the bench seat and carpet, unplug the valve wiring and vent and remove the high-pressure lines, plugging the openings. Strap the support to the jack, free the petrol tank, brake cables and fuel lines, unbolt and lower the support with the tanks. Refit in reverse with new strap nuts, then leak test and perform the gas system test.
Fits: VW Touran I (1T, 2003–2015)
- Renewed: as needed
Don't miss
- Release pressure and close every mechanical shut-off valve before opening any gas line.
- Loosen high-pressure unions slowly and counterhold them to let remaining gas escape.
- Plug open gas connections immediately.
- Run the tensioning straps under the fuel lines and do not strap the petrol tank to the support.
- New union nuts: hand-tight plus 180°; refitted ones: hand-tight plus 90°.
- Leak test the natural gas system before the car is handed back.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
