Removing and installing air filter housing (Polo) — VW

Removing and installing air filter housing (Polo) on VW: 8 steps, 1 torque figure, engines CAVA, CAVB, CAVC, CAVD.

Air filter housing removal on the Polo 6R (2009–2014) with the turbocharged engine codes listed below is short, and the one torque on it is the securing bolt at 8 Nm. The securing bolts of the intake air duct and the inlet connection at the turbocharger are undone, the vacuum hose that runs under the intake hose is pulled clear, the securing bolt comes out and the housing lifts straight up off its locating pins. Going back in it is pressed down onto the pins from above before the bolt is tightened, the intake hose attached and the duct bolts done up. What matters is the turbocharger inlet: nothing loose can go down it while the duct is off, and the inlet connection has to seat properly or the engine draws unfiltered air past it.

🧭 Before you start

Undo the securing bolts on the intake air duct and at the turbocharger inlet connection, move the vacuum hose out from under the intake hose, remove the housing securing bolt and withdraw the housing upwards. To install, press the housing onto its locating pins from above, tighten the securing bolt to 8 Nm, attach the intake hose and tighten the duct and inlet connection bolts.

Fits: VW Polo 6R (2009–2014)

Don't miss

  • Cover the turbocharger inlet while the duct is off; anything dropped in goes into the compressor.
  • Vacuum hose under the intake hose must be moved before the housing lifts; it tears otherwise.
  • Press the housing onto the locating pins from above before fitting the bolt.
  • Securing bolt to 8 Nm.
  • Check the inlet connection at the turbocharger seats fully before tightening its bolts.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
