Delivery pressure of fuel pump, engine code CAYC — VW

Delivery pressure of fuel pump, engine code CAYC on VW: 31 steps, engines CAYC. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This check measures fuel pump delivery pressure on the VW Passat B7 2010–2014 (362/365) and the VW CC 2012–2017 (358) with engine code CAYC. The line is under pressure, so a cloth goes round each joint and it is opened carefully, wearing eye protection. Pressure tester VAS 6551 is teed into the supply line at the high-pressure pump with the adapters listed, and the guided function for checking the electric fuel pumps runs the pump for 30 seconds. The reading must be at least 4.5 bar with the pump driven, at idle and at 2500 rpm. If it is low, the filter is bypassed and the test repeated, and then the pump is checked directly at the fuel delivery unit, where 7.2 ± 0.5 bar is required.

31 steps 1 engine code

🧭 Before you start

Remove the engine cover, release pressure and connect VAS 6551 between the supply line and the high-pressure pump. Read pressure with the guided function, then at idle and at 2500 rpm; each must reach at least 4.5 bar. If not, measure across the fuel filter and renew it if the pressure recovers, then check at the fuel delivery unit under the rear cover, where the specification is 7.2 ± 0.5 bar. Reconnect all lines and check the delivery unit connector is secure.

Fits: VW Passat B7 saloon (362, 2010–2014), VW Passat B7 Variant (365, 2010–2014), VW CC (358, 2012–2017)

  • Special tools named: VAS 6551/1, VAS 6551/2

Don't miss

  • Wear eye protection and wrap joints in a cloth before releasing fuel pressure.
  • Set the tester taps exactly as specified for each test position.
  • Minimum 4.5 bar with the pump driven, at idle and at 2500 rpm.
  • Pull-test the delivery unit connector without pressing the catch; a loose fit causes faults.
  • At the delivery unit, the target is 7.2 ± 0.5 bar.

  1. Connect pressure testerVAS 6551 to fuel circuit as shown.
  2. Switch on pressure testerVAS 6551 by pressing On/Off button.
  3. Open shut-off taps "“A”" and "“B”" of pressure testerVAS 6551 and close shut-off tap "“C”".
  4. Connect vehicle diagnostic tester and carry out guided function "“Checking electronic fuel pump(s)”". [Note: The fuel pump is now activated for 30 seconds.]
  5. Read pressure on pressure testerVAS 6551. Specification: min. 4.5 bar.
  6. Start engine and run at idling speed.
  7. Read pressure on pressure testerVAS 6551. Specification: min. 4.5 bar.
  8. Place pressure testerVAS 6551 onto windscreen so that it can be read from inside of vehicle.
  9. Increase idling speed to 2500 rpm.
  10. Read pressure on pressure testerVAS 6551. Specification: min. 4.5 bar
  11. Reconnect fuel supply line to high pressure pump.
  12. Pull off fuel supply line (B). To do this, press the quick-release couplings onto the connections, press in the locking elements (keep pressed) and pull the quick-release couplings off. Separate plug-in connectors .
  13. Connect pressure testerVAS 6551 to lines VAS 6551/1 and VAS 6551/2 in fuel circuit.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
