Gearbox removal & installation: Suzuki Swift (M13A, M15A)
Step-by-step gearbox removal & installation for the Suzuki Swift (M13A/M15A): 74 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Pulling the engine on the Suzuki Swift with the M13A or M15A petrol engine is done by lowering the engine and gearbox together out of the bottom of the car. Fuel pressure is released and the battery and tray are removed first. Then it is a long round of disconnection: every sensor and loom connector, alternator and starter wiring, earth cables, throttle cable, brake servo hose, radiator and heater hoses, fuel lines, clutch hose, gear-shift and exhaust. The air-conditioning compressor is unbolted and left connected, the gearbox oil drained and the drive shafts removed. The assembly is then supported on the mounts. The job is decided by checking that every wire and hose is free before lowering, and by leak checks afterwards.
🧭 Before you start
Release fuel pressure, disconnect and remove the battery and tray, then remove the air filter, washer hose and left engine cover. Remove the air-conditioning belt and unbolt the compressor without opening it, drain the gearbox oil and disconnect all engine and gearbox wiring, cables, hoses, fuel lines, clutch hose, gear-shift and exhaust. Remove the front wheels and drive shafts, support the engine, check nothing is still connected, remove the mounts and lower the engine and gearbox out underneath, then separate the gearbox. Refit in reverse and check for leaks.
Fits: platform codes 1.3, |, 1.5
- Opens: gearbox oil, fuel
Don't miss
- Release fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel line.
- Leave the air-conditioning compressor connected and tie it aside; do not open the refrigerant circuit.
- Drain the gearbox oil before removing the drive shafts.
- Go round once more before lowering: every wiring connector and hose must be free.
- Check for leaks after refilling and correct if necessary.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
