Timing belt replacement: Opel AstraF 1.8, 2.0 OHC and (16LZ2, C18NZ, C20NE)
Step-by-step timing belt replacement for the Opel AstraF 1.8, 2.0 OHC and: 47 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The Astra F with the eight-valve OHC engines covered here (16LZ2, C18NZ and C20NE in 1.6i, 1.8i and 2.0i form) has a straightforward cam belt change with one thing to watch: the tensioner pointer. With the engine supported by the special support tool and the ancillary belt and timing belt front cover removed, the timing marks are checked before the old belt comes off. The new belt is fitted, the tensioner pulley is turned clockwise until the pointer lines up with A for a new belt (B for a used one), and the mounting bolt is tightened. Two full turns by hand and a recheck of the marks confirm the job; if the marks fall outside the specified area, repeat the procedure.
🧭 Before you start
Support the engine with the special tool, remove the ancillary belt and timing belt front cover, check the timing marks and remove the old belt. Fit the new belt with the tensioner finger-tight, set the pointer and tighten the mounting bolt. Turn the engine two rotations, recheck the marks and refit the cover, engine support and battery.
Fits: platform codes 1.6I, |, 1.8I, 2.0I

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
