Gearbox removal & installation: Citroen C3 A51 MA (DV4C)
Step-by-step gearbox removal & installation for the Citroen C3 A51 MA (DV4C): 75 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Removing the MA manual gearbox from the C3 (A51) with the 1.4 HDi DV4C diesel is a front-drive job with the usual drive shaft work underneath. Wheels come off, drive shaft nuts are undone with the special counterhold tool, the track rod ends, stabiliser links and lower arm ball joints are released, and both drive shafts and the intermediate shaft bracket come out. Above, the air intake ducting, battery, engine control unit and battery tray clear the way to the gearbox. The starter motor is pulled back without disconnecting it, and the clutch slave cylinder removed with the hydraulics left closed. With the engine on a trolley jack and gearbox on a hoist, the support is released and the units separated. Renew the gaskets and plug the drive shaft holes.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the wheels, drive shaft nuts, track rod ends, stabiliser links and ball joints, then both drive shafts and the intermediate bracket. Clear the intake, battery, control unit and tray, disconnect the earth, reversing switch and gear-shift cables, and move the starter and slave cylinder aside. Support engine and gearbox, release the pendulum support and gearbox support, lower slightly, separate and remove. Refill the gearbox after installation.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
