E90/E91/E92/E93; M57T2; GS6-53DZ gearbox — BMW
E90/E91/E92/E93; M57T2; GS6-53DZ gearbox on BMW: 54 steps, engines M57D30T2, M57D30T2TOP. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
This is gearbox removal on the BMW 3 Series E90/E91/E92/E93 330d and xd with the M57T2 diesel and GS6-53DZ manual gearbox. The exhaust side is the bulk of it: pipes off the manifold, rear mounts and brackets released, heat shields off, then the turbocharger and catalytic converter bolts, oxygen sensor, exhaust gas temperature sensor and the diesel particulate filter with its bracket. The cross member and propeller shaft follow, including the middle support, taking care of the rubber boot. With the reversing light switch, earth cable, wiring and gear-shift rod off, the gearbox is supported, the engine held on a hoist and the bell housing bolts removed. Safety straps on the gearbox jack are not optional, and new exhaust gaskets go in on refit.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the battery and remove the underbody cover. Remove the exhaust pipes, heat shields and particulate filter, then the cross member and propeller shaft with its middle support. Disconnect the gearbox wiring, earth and shift linkage, support the engine and gearbox and remove the attaching bolts before lowering the gearbox out. On refit, check the dowels, grease the input shaft splines and use new gaskets.
Fits: platform codes 330D, XD
Don't miss
- Use safety straps to secure the gearbox on the jack.
- Do not damage the propeller shaft rubber boot while lowering it.
- Check the engine-to-gearbox dowel pins or sleeves are in place before refitting.
- Grease the gearbox input shaft splines before installing.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
