Testing air flow meter -G19: Audi 2.0 (1Z, ABK, ADW)
Step-by-step testing air flow meter -G19 for the Audi 2.0: factory workshop text. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
Testing operation
Vehicles with software versions up to D051):
1)
Interrogating control unit version=>Page
01-2
.
Notes:
A second mechanic is required to note the readings on the tester when the vehicle is moving.
Observe safety notes => Page
23-49
.
Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit=>Page
01-2
. Then start the engine.
Select the function "Read individual measured value" and enter Channel No. 07=>Page
01-46
.

Indicated on display:
Run the engine until it is warm, then allow to idle.
Specification: 55 ... 68
If the specification is not attained, test exhaust gas recirculation
=>Page
23-73
.
Take the vehicle for a test drive and accelerate at full throttle in 3rd gear from a speed of about 40 km/h.
Specification: The readout should increase steadily to about 200 at a speed of 100 km/h (3600 rpm).
If the specification is not attained, test turbocharger (=>Testing charge pressure system, Page
23-49
). If the turbocharger is okay, renew air flow meter -G19.
Repeat the test several times. Under the same conditions (charge pressure, engine speed, gear, full throttle) the readout for the air quantity should be approximately the same.
If readouts vary by more than 40 units, renew air flow meter -G19.
Vehicles with software versions from D06 onwards1):
1)
Interrogating control unit version=>Page

.
Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit=>Page

Indicated on display:
Observe display in display zone 10.
Run the engine until it is warm, then allow to idle.
Specification: 80 ... 99
If the specification is not attained, test exhaust gas recirculation
=>Page
23-73
.
Take the vehicle for a test drive and accelerate at full throttle in 4th gear from a speed of about 60 km/h.
Specification: 210 ... 255 from approx. 80 km/h
Testing voltage supply
Switch off ignition.
Pull connector off air flow meter -G19
=>Fitting locations overview, Page
23-3
.
Set hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526 to voltage measuring range (20 V direct current) and connect to contacts 3 and 4 of connector using test leads from V.A.G 1594 A.
Switch on ignition.
Specification: approx. 5 V
If the specification is not attained, test wiring.
Testing wiring
With the ignition switched off, connect test box V.A.G 1598 A to connector for engine control unit but not to the control unit itself (control unit remains disconnected) using adapter V.A.G 1598/5=>Page
23-46
.
Test for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:
Connector / for -G19 / Contact No. · Test box V.A.G 1598 A / / Socket No.
2 · 38
3 · 34
4 · 13
Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.
If the wiring is OK, renew Diesel direct injection system control unit -J248.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
