Testing activation of solenoid valves — AUDI
Testing activation of solenoid valves on Audi: factory workshop procedure. Full factory text, tools and checks.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
Unplug 8-pin connector from gearbox =>Page

.
Initiate final control diagnosis =>Page

and activate the solenoid valve to be tested.
Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 A with test leads from V.A.G 1594 to the corresponding connector contacts:
Component · Contacts on connector
Solenoid valve 1 -N88 · M + H
Solenoid valve 2 -N89 · M + K
Solenoid valve 3 -N90 · M + L
Solenoid valve 4 -N91 1) · M + B

Note test requirements
Test requirements for solenoid valve 4 -N91:
To test activation of solenoid valve 4 -N91, the connector contacts M and B with test leads from V.A.G 1594 must be connected to the contacts M and B of the plug connector. In parallel with the above, the diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 A must be connected, i.e. the diode test lamp must also be connected from M to B.
For the 55-pin gearbox control unit, this test can also be performed with the plugged-in connector and using test box V.A.G 1598 A => Electrical test, test step "Activation of solenoid valve 4 -N91" from Page
01-178
.
The diode test lamp must flash on actuation of the relevant solenoid valve in the final control diagnosis.
If the diode test lamp does not flash on actuation of the solenoid valve:
Test solenoid valve relay =>Page
01-264
.
If no defects are found in the test for the solenoid valve relay:
Test wiring between multiple connector of gearbox control unit and 8-pin connector on gearbox => Page
01-267
.
If a defect is found in the actuation of solenoid valve 4 -N91, test the wiring harness in the gearbox => Page
01-268
.
If no defects are found in the wiring test, replace control unit for automatic gearbox -J217 => Page
01-23
.
After completing the test and reconnecting 8-pin connector, delete fault memory => Page
01-97
.
Test solenoid valve relay
Unplug 8-pin connector from gearbox => Page

Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 A with test leads from V.A.G 1594 A to contact -M- of connector and gearbox earth.
Switch on ignition, initiate final control diagnosis => Page

:
Thediode test lamp must illuminate.
Note:
The diode test lamp must flash on actuation of the solenoid valve relay in the final control diagnosis.
If the diode test lamp does not illuminate:

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
