Safety requirements for handling pyrotechnic belt tensioners
Testing, removing, installing and repair work may only be performed by qualified personnel.
Never use test lamp, voltmeter or ohmmeter for checking.
Only check belt tensioner units that are installed and use suitable vehicle diagnostic, testing and information systems (for example
vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system
VAS 5051 B
) .
Before handling the belt tensioner units (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
Always disconnect voltage supply when working on belt tensioners.
Observe the measures to be taken when disconnecting the battery

.
Detach battery earth strap/wire, cover negative terminal. There is no waiting time after disconnecting the battery.
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
Observe measures to be taken after connecting the battery

When connecting the belt tensioner unit, all mechanical components (including those of the three-point seat belt) must be secured properly.
Other than the person performing the work, there should be no-one in the vehicle.
Belt tensioner components must not be opened or repaired; always use new parts.
Belt tensioner units which have been dropped onto a hard surface or which show signs of damage must not be used.
Belt tensioner units which are mechanically damaged (dents, fractures) must always be renewed.
Belt tensioner units must be installed immediately following removal from their packaging.
If the work is interrupted, the belt tensioner unit should again be placed in its packaging.
Never point the open end of a belt tensioner at another person.
Always wash hands after handling belt tensioners which have been triggered.
Storage and transport must be in accordance with the statutory regulations of the countries in question.
The belt tensioner unit must not be left lying unattended.
Belt tensioner units must never be treated with grease, cleaning agents etc.
Belt tensioner units must never be exposed to temperatures in excess of 100°C, even for brief periods.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
