Ribbed belt 2.4 V6 — AUDI
Ribbed belt 2.4 V6 on Audi: 21 steps, engines AMM. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Removing the ancillary drive (ribbed) belt on the Audi 2.4 V6 30-valve with engine code AMM, listed here for the Cabriolet. The source steps are brief, so treat this as an outline rather than a full method. The viscous coupling for the cooling fan has to come off first to make room, and it has a left-hand thread, which catches out anyone who reaches for it in the usual direction. With the special spanners holding the fan pulley, the coupling is undone, then the belt tensioner is released: on type 1 tensioners with a spanner, on type 2 with an Allen key. The tensioner is locked in its released position with a locking pin, after which the belt slides off the pulleys. Identify which tensioner type is fitted before starting.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the viscous fan coupling, remembering its left-hand thread, using the special tools to counterhold. Release the tensioner with a spanner on type 1 or an Allen key on type 2, lock it with the locking pin and remove the belt. Refitting reverses the order, with the belt routed correctly before the pin is withdrawn.
Fits: platform codes 2.4, V6, 30V, -CABRIOLET
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
- Special tools named: locking pin
Don't miss
- The viscous coupling has a left-hand thread.
- Check whether the tensioner is type 1 (spanner) or type 2 (Allen key) before starting.
- Lock the tensioner with the locking pin before lifting the belt off.
- General practice: note the belt routing before removal and check the pulleys for noise or play.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
