Renewing oil seal for output shaft: Audi A3

Fits: Audi A3 (8V, 2012–2020)

• Opens: gearbox oil

Don't miss

• If it was only possible to remove the metal ring, carefully prise out the rest of the oil seal using a screwdriver.

📋 Procedure

1. Drain gear oil out of bevel box .
2. Remove propshaft Rear final drive39Propshaft; Removing and installing propshaft.
3. Insert two screwdrivers at the edge and lever off dust seal (arrow).
4. Apply grease to drill bit (2) so that drilling swarf adheres to drill bit.
5. ⚠ Risk of damage to bearing behind oil seal.Take care to drill only through the metal ring of the oil seal.Do not screw in the self-tapping screw too far. — Using drill bit ∅ 2 … 4 mm, carefully drill a hole in outer metal ring (1) of oil seal.

6. Screw self-tapping screw (approx. 4 mm ∅) into hole drilled in oil seal.
7. Pull out oil seal using puller T10055 and adapter T10055/2.
8. ⚠ Risk of damage to gearboxNo metal particles must be allowed to enter the pinion housing; if necessary, vacuum out particles before proceeding. — Carefully remove cloth, taking care not to let metal particles drop into pinion housing.
9. Thoroughly clean bevel box and opening for oil seal. [Note: If it was only possible to remove the metal ring, carefully prise out the rest of the oil seal using a screwdriver.]
10. Lubricate outer circumference of new oil seal with gear oil.
11. Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half-full with sealing greaseG 052 128 A1.
12. Place oil seal carefully on shaft, ensuring that inner sealing lip is not rolled back.
13. Drive in oil seal as far as stop using thrust piece T40121.
14. Drive in new dust seal with tube2040.
15. Fill up gear oil .
