Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A4 Cabriolet B6/B7 (8H), Audi A4 B6/B7 (8E)
📋 Procedure
- If fitted, loosen quick-release fasteners (2) and (3) and remove rear noise insulation (B).
- Turn steering to left onto full lock.
- If fitted, remove noise insulation (arrows) in wheel housing (right-side).
- Detach cover plates above drive shaft (right-side) (arrow 1) and (arrow 2).
- Disconnect drive shaft from flange shaft and tie up as high as possible, taking care not to damage surface coating.
- Place used oil collection and extraction unitV.A.G 1782 underneath.
- Remove flange shaft (right-side); to do so, secure puller T10037 to gearbox housing (arrow).
- Lever out flange shaft oil seal (arrow) using a suitable lever.
- Lightly oil outer circumference of new oil seal.
- Drive in new flange shaft oil seal using thrust piece T10387 until thrust piece reaches stop; keep seal straight when installing. [Note: Driving-in depth (standard): 5.5 mm beneath surface of coverWhen carrying out a repair, the oil seal is driven in to a depth of 6.5 mm using thrust piece T10387, so that the new seal does not bear on the same contact surface on the used flange shaft.]
- Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half-full with sealing greaseG 052 128 A1. [Note: Inspect for visible signs of damage to polygon bearings (2) (such as cracking in outer race). If the polygon bearings (2) do not run smoothly with the flange shaft removed, this does not necessarily indicate that the bearings are defective. A test for noisy bearings can only be performed with the bearings installed. The polygon bearings can only be renewed together with the flange shaft.Always renew circlip for flange shaft (5).A spacer ring (4) is fitted between the polygon bearing and the differential sun wheel on flange shafts with 30 mm spline diameter.]
- Clamp flange shaft in vice, using jaw covers. Use new circlip (A) to press old circlip out of groove in flange shaft.
- Knock flange shaft in with driftVW 295.
- Install drive shaft 40.
- Bolt on heat shield for drive shaft (right-side).
- Fill up oil in gearbox and check oil level .
- Install noise insulation.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
