🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012), Audi TT Mk2 (8J, 2006–2014)

  • Special tools named: puller

Don't miss

  • Risk of damage to flexible joints in exhaust system. The flexible joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent further than 10°. — Disconnect exhaust system at clamp (arrows).
  • Make sure axial needle bearings (5 ... 7) do not move out of their centred position when fitting housing.
  • Before installing, lightly oil outer circumference of new oil seal and space between sealing lips with high performance oil for Haldex coupling.
  • Drive in new oil seal as far as stop using thrust piece T10019. Make sure seal remains straight.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ Risk of damage to flexible joints in exhaust system. The flexible joint in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent further than 10°. — Disconnect exhaust system at clamp (arrows).

  1. Pull off propshaft flange. Use three-arm puller (e.g. Kukko 12-1) if flange is difficult to remove.
  2. Pull seal out with oil seal extractor lever VW 681.
  3. Remove Haldex coupling .
  4. Place Haldex coupling on a clean workbench.
  5. Detach housing for Haldex coupling
  6. Remove circlip (1) in front of grooved ball bearing (2).
  7. Press out grooved ball bearing.
  8. Carefully press new grooved ball bearing in until stop.
  9. Fit circlip (1).
  10. Heat grooved ball bearing (2) to approx. 80 ℃ using hot air blowerV.A.G 1416.
  11. Position axial needle bearings (5 ... 7) on the centre of multi-plate clutch (1)“Assembly of multi-plate clutch”.
  12. Fit Haldex coupling housing onto multi-plate clutch (1) by hand. [Note: Make sure axial needle bearings (5 ... 7) do not move out of their centred position when fitting housing.]
  13. Before installing, lightly oil outer circumference of new oil seal and space between sealing lips with high performance oil for Haldex coupling.
  14. Drive in new oil seal as far as stop using thrust piece T10019. Make sure seal remains straight.
  15. Press on propshaft flange.
  16. Apply locking fluidD 000 600 to new hexagon nut and tighten nut. Tightening torque
  17. Install Haldex coupling .
  18. Install flexible coupling (rear) .
  19. Install exhaust system and align so it is free of stress: Audi A3 Engine, mechanics26; Audi TT 26Exhaust pipes/silencers; Exploded view - silencers.
  20. Fill up with high-performance oil for Haldex coupling and check oil level in Haldex coupling .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
