Renewing brake caliper (1LA / 1LB / 1LJ / 1LD / 1ZT + S4 / S5) on Audi: 19 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

19 steps 1 torque figure

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F), Audi A5 (8T, 2007–2016), Audi A4 B8 (8K, 2007–2015)

  • Opens: brake fluid
  • Special tools named: V.A.G 1869/2

Don't miss

  • Do not remove brake pedal actuator V.A.G 1869/2.
  • Mark brake pads when removing them if they are to be reinstalled. Reinstall in their original position to prevent uneven braking.
  • Do NOT slacken bolts (6 and 9) — Remove bolts (3) on brake carrier, holding brake carrier firmly.
  • Before fitting brake pads, clean pad retaining pins (arrows) and grease lightly ETKA. Rubber parts must be kept free of grease: clean off any grease if necessary.
  • Only bleed the brakes at the wheel for which the brake caliper is being renewed.

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Insert brake pedal actuator V.A.G 1869/2 between brake pedal and driver's seat (depress brake pedal at least 60 mm). This closes the valves in the brake master cylinder and stops the brake fluid reservoir from running empty.
  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Remove wheels.
  4. Connect hose of bleeder bottle to bleeder screw of front brake caliper.
  5. Open bleeder screw on front brake caliper to release pressure from brake system.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
