Renewing bonded rubber bushes for subframe (front) - vehicles from model year 2013 onwards — AUDI
Renewing bonded rubber bushes for subframe (front) - vehicles from model year 2013 onwards on Audi: 28 steps, 1 torque figure.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi TT Mk2 (8J, 2006–2014)
- Special tools named: T10486
- Renewed: securing bolts
Don't miss
- Check for factory marks (coloured spot (arrows)) on flexible coupling and Haldex coupling flange. If necessary, mark position of flexible coupling and Haldex coupling flange in relation to each other (arrows).
- If the vehicle is not strapped down, there is a danger that it can slip off the lifting platform. — Position engine and gearbox jackV.A.G 1383 A with universal gearbox supportV.A.G 1359/2(1) under subframe and secure with strap.
- For clarity, illustration only shows left side of vehicle.
- Clips will be destroyed and must be renewed.
- When lowering, make sure there is enough clearance for brake lines, electrical wiring and propshaft centring pin.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) | Replace securing bolts on subframe one after the other on both sides with a locating pin… |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Remove rear wheels 44.
- Remove coil springs .
- Remove rear silencer(s) 26.
- If fitted, remove underbody trim 66.
- Check for factory marks (coloured spot (arrows)) on flexible coupling and Haldex coupling flange. If necessary, mark position of flexible coupling and Haldex coupling flange in relation to each other (arrows).
- Unbolt rear propshaft tube with flexible coupling and vibration damper from rear final drive (arrows)39.
- Support propshaft (A) on tunnel support (1) using a wooden block.
- Push rear propshaft tube towards gearbox as far as possible.
- Remove track rods .
- Use tensioning straps T10038(1) to strap vehicle to support arms of lifting platform on both sides.
- ⚠ If the vehicle is not strapped down, there is a danger that it can slip off the lifting platform. — Position engine and gearbox jackV.A.G 1383 A with universal gearbox supportV.A.G 1359/2(1) under subframe and secure with strap.
- Remove one hexagon bolt (1) on both sides. [Note: For clarity, illustration only shows left side of vehicle.]
- Fix position of subframe using locating pins T10486 or T10486 A(1).
- Replace securing bolts on subframe one after the other on both sides with a locating pin from the locating pin set T10486 or T10486 A(1) and tighten to 20 Nm. — 20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
- Detach brake line from clips (arrows) on left side. [Note: Clips will be destroyed and must be renewed.]
- Carefully lower subframe with attachments approx. 40 mm. [Note: When lowering, make sure there is enough clearance for brake lines, electrical wiring and propshaft centring pin.]
- Prise locating element (1) off bonded rubber bush in area of retaining lugs.
- Mark installation position of bonded rubber bush in relation to subframe (1) using a felt-tip pen or similar. [Note: Make marking (1) on subframe centrally in relation to cut-out in bonded rubber bush.]
- Apply tools as shown in illustration.
- Take up play in special tools.
- Press out bonded rubber bush. [Note: The collar on the outer ring of the bonded rubber bush will shear off with a loud bang when the bush is removed. After it has been pulled out, the bonded rubber bush must be removed from the tube T10356/2 with light blows from a hammer.]
- Mark line (1) on vertical ridge of bonded rubber bush, as shown in illustration.
- Set up special tools with bonded rubber bush on subframe as shown in illustration.
- Check position of bonded rubber bush, align as required and take up play in special tools with bonded rubber bush.
- Press in bonded rubber bush by actuating pump until collar is flush with subframe. Ensure that the bonded rubber bush remains straight during the first stage of installation, otherwise the outer ring may be damaged.
- On vehicles with electronic damping control (Audi magnetic ride), re-adapt reference position .
- On vehicles with automatic headlight range control, perform basic setting of headlights Electrical system94Headlights; Adjusting headlights.
- Check and adjust wheel alignment as required, see chart .

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
