Removing gearbox on vehicles with 6-cylinder petrol engine — AUDI
Removing gearbox on vehicles with 6-cylinder petrol engine on Audi: 48 steps, 2 torque figures. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what.
Taking out the manual gearbox 02X on an Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011) with the six-cylinder petrol engine involves work from the luggage compartment, the engine bay and underneath. The battery earth is disconnected, the expansion tank moved aside and both front exhaust pipes separated from the manifolds, part from above and part from below. Underneath, the cross members, exhaust brackets, drive shafts, selector linkage and clutch slave cylinder come off, and the propshaft is slid together and tied to the body. The torque reaction support stop is reset so the engine cannot tip forward, then the gearbox goes onto gearbox support 3282 with its support elements bolted at 20 Nm. Keep the flexible exhaust joints within 10° and never touch the clutch pedal once the slave cylinder is off.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the battery, remove the rear engine cover, move the expansion tank and unplug the post-catalyst lambda probes. Separate the front exhaust pipes, take out the noise insulation, cross members and exhaust brackets, then unbolt drive shafts, selector rods and slave cylinder. Slide the propshaft rearwards and tie it up, reset the torque reaction support stop, and remove the accessible bell housing bolts. Mount the gearbox on the prepared support, remove the tunnel cross member and last two bolts, then lower it off the dowels.
Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)
Don't miss
- Do not press the clutch pedal with the slave cylinder removed; it is destroyed above approx. 300 N.
- The flexible exhaust connection must not bend more than 10°.
- Keep the lock carrier fitted, not in service position, while adjusting the torque reaction stop.
- Drill the 10.2 mm hole in the support elements before mounting the gearbox support.
- Tighten the gearbox support element bolts to 20 Nm.
- Transfer the gearbox support (2) to a replacement gearbox.

🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) | Secure the support elements to the left side of the gearbox, as shown in illustration |
| 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) | Secure the support elements to the right side of the gearbox, as shown in illustration |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
