Removing gearbox in vehicles with V6 petrol engine: Audi A6 C6
Step-by-step removing gearbox in vehicles with V6 petrol engine for the Audi A6 C6: 45 steps, 2 torque figures.
Removing the manual gearbox 01X from an Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011) with the V6 petrol engine is done with the engine left in place, so supporting the front end correctly is half the job. After the battery earth is disconnected, the coolant expansion tank is moved aside, the post-catalyst Lambda probes are unplugged and the upper exhaust nuts undone from above. Below, the wheels, noise insulation, heat shields, cross members and both front exhaust pipes with catalytic converters come off, followed by drive shafts, selector linkage, clutch slave cylinder and sensors. The lock carrier stays in place and the torque reaction support stop is raised to keep the engine from tilting. Gearbox support 3282 with plate 3282/43 then takes the gearbox down.
🧭 Before you start
Disconnect the battery, move the expansion tank aside and undo the upper exhaust and gearbox bolts. Below, remove wheels, noise insulation, heat shields, cross members, front exhaust pipes, drive shafts, selector rods and slave cylinder, and unplug G28 and F4. Raise the torque reaction support stop, prepare gearbox support 3282 with plate 3282/43 and secure its support elements with 20 Nm bolts. Remove the tunnel cross member and last bolts and lower the gearbox, then mount it on a stand.
Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)
Don't miss
- Do not press the clutch pedal with the slave cylinder off; it is destroyed above about 300 N.
- Keep the lock carrier installed; adjust the torque reaction support stop to stop the engine tilting.
- Do not bend the exhaust de-coupling element more than 10°.
- Support element bolts M10 x 20 on gearbox support 3282 are tightened to 20 Nm.
- Transfer the gearbox support to a replacement gearbox.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
