Removing and installing windbreak mount — AUDI

Removing and installing windbreak mount on Audi: 24 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Removing the windbreak mount on the convertible covered by the platform codes listed below is mostly a roof-handling exercise. The roof is opened and the windbreak lowered, the front seats go fully forward, and the back panel cover and roof frame flap are removed. With the roof closed, the roof compartment trim is pulled from the tensioner mounting, then with the roof open again the upper luggage trim comes out and the tensioning strap is fed into the roof compartment. The tensioner is lifted, pivoted up and secured, and the roof is held with tensioning strap T10038 and hooks T40306 before the front compartment trim and roof locking mechanism are removed. Only then can the wiring be unclipped and the mount unbolted. Securing the tensioner and protecting the paint are what keep this job clean.

24 steps

🧭 Before you start

Work alternates between open and closed roof positions to reach the trims and the tensioner. After removing the back panel cover, compartment trims and luggage trim, release the tensioning strap and operating lever, mask the body and close the roof by hand. Secure the tensioner upright, strap the roof with T10038 and hooks T40306, then remove the front compartment trim and locking mechanism. Unplug and unclip the wiring, remove bolts (2) and lift off the windbreak mount.

Fits: platform code FV

Don't miss

  • Mask the body before moving the roof by hand to protect the paintwork.
  • Secure the pivoted tensioner so it cannot close unintentionally.
  • Tension the strap three revolutions on the quick-release shaft, re-tensioning after the hooks engage.
  • Pull the compartment trim out starting from the outer edge.
  • Refit the securing element on the tensioner operating lever on reassembly.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
