  1. Detach electrical connector from bracket and unplug: [Note: Disregard (items 3, 4).For illustration purposes, the installation position is shown with the engine removed.]
  2. Remove nuts (arrows); use articulated wrench (12 mm)T40220 if necessary.
  3. Remove bolt (1), detach catalytic converter (right-side) and move it clear to the side. [Note: For illustration purposes, the installation position is shown with the engine removed.]
  4. Move clear fuel line and line going to activated charcoal filter at air pipe.
  5. Unplug electrical connector (1) from air mass meter G70.
  6. Disconnect vacuum line (3) from air pipe.
  7. Disconnect crankcase breather hose (2) from air pipe by pressing release tabs.
  8. Remove air pipe and air mass meter G70. To do so, release hose clip (4) and clamps (arrows).
  9. ⚠ Risk of violating emission legislation applying to USA models.Do NOT open hose connection (2). — Move air pipe clear to one side (crankcase breather hose (2) remains connected). To do so, release hose clip (4) and clamps (arrows).
  10. Disconnect vacuum line (1).
  11. Detach air cleaner housing and unplug electrical connector (2) at variable intake manifold change-over valve N335 on reverse side of air cleaner.
  12. Disconnect hose (3) for secondary air system.
  13. Lift retaining clip (2), release hose clip (1) on coolant pipe (right-side) and remove coolant hose.
  14. Remove nuts (arrows) and move vacuum pump (1) to one side with lines connected.
  15. Remove bolts (1) and (2) and detach coolant hose (arrow).
  16. Detach coolant pipe (right-side) from coolant connection and move clear to the side.
  17. Remove bolts (1) and (2) and release hose clip (arrow).
  18. Pull out coolant connection towards the right side.
  19. If fitted, disconnect vacuum hose (5) from combination valve for secondary air system.
  20. Press release tabs and disconnect secondary air hose (4).
  21. Unscrew bolts (1) and (2) and remove combination valve for secondary air system. [Note: Disregard (item 3).]
  22. Slacken and remove bolts in the sequence: (8 ... 1).
  23. Carefully detach timing chain cover (right-side) from bonded joint and remove together with bracket (arrow) for electrical connectors for Lambda probes. [Note: Fit new O-rings.]
  24. Remove old sealant from grooves on timing chain cover and from sealing surfaces.
  25. ⚠ Risk of eye injury.Wear safety goggles. — Remove remaining sealant on timing chain cover and cylinder head using rotating plastic brush or similar.
  26. Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease. [Note: Note the use-by date of the sealant.]
  27. Cut off nozzle of tube at front marking (nozzle ∅ approx. 2 mm).
  28. Use drift to drive intermediate coolant pipe (right-side) (2) out of timing chain cover (right-side).
  29. Fit O-rings (1) on intermediate coolant pipe (2).
  30. Fit intermediate coolant pipe in timing chain cover (right-side).
  31. ⚠ Make sure lubrication system is not clogged by excess sealant. The bead of sealant must not be thicker than specified. — Apply sealant bead (arrow) onto clean sealing surfaces of timing chain cover (right-side) as illustrated. [Note: The timing chain cover must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.]
  32. Fit timing chain cover (right-side) together with bracket (arrow) and tighten bolts “Timing chain cover (right-side) - tightening torque and sequence”.
  33. Install combination valve for secondary air (right-side) .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
