Removing and installing sill panel moulding — AUDI

Removing and installing sill panel moulding on Audi: 17 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This procedure covers the interior sill panel moulding, the trim strip along the door entry, on the Audi models with the platform codes listed below. On the front it is buried under the B-pillar trims and the front entry light, so those come out first; vehicles without a sliding door also need the side trim panel removed. At the rear the entry light, the storage compartment on the front seat frame and the lower B-pillar trim come off first. The moulding itself is levered out of its mountings with a trim wedge, working from the front, then lifted inwards and pulled clear. The two things that matter are the retaining clips, which break easily and should be renewed if damaged, and making sure the door seals sit correctly afterwards.

17 steps

🧭 Before you start

Remove the entry light and the B-pillar trims (plus the side trim on cars without a sliding door, or the seat storage compartment at the rear), then lever the moulding out of its mountings from the front with a trim wedge and lift it away. On refitting, inspect and renew damaged clips; at the rear, push the body clips about halfway in and clip the others into the step trim first. Finish by checking the door seals are seated over the moulding. The right side follows the same sequence as the left.

Fits: platform codes SF, SG

  • Renewed: them as necessary, if necessary

Don't miss

  • Start levering at the front with a plastic trim wedge to avoid cracking the moulding.
  • Inspect every retaining clip before refitting and renew any that are damaged.
  • At the rear, push the body clips only about halfway in before pressing the moulding home.
  • Door seals must sit correctly over the moulding or you get wind noise and water ingress.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
