📋 Procedure

Removing and installing right temperature flap control motor
V159 (or left temperature flap control motor
V158)
Note
The designation for this control motor depends on the version of the air conditioner (front operating and display unit,
Climatronic control unit
J255
). It varies in the Guided Fault Finding routine and in the current flow diagram for the
“deluxe” and
“basic” versions
Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
On vehicles with an air conditioner of
“Basic” type, the left and right temperature flaps are actuated by the left temperature flap control motor
V158 (the left and right flaps are linked by the shaft, the control motor is labelled left and attached on the right of the air conditioning unit).
The right temperature flap control motor
V159 is fitted with an integrated potentiometer for right temperature flap control motor
G221.
The left temperature flap control motor
V158 is fitted with an integrated potentiometer for left temperature flap control motor
G220.
Removing
Remove retaining plate (C) with control motors
V158 (
V159
) and
V109 (
V108) (see the separate procedure).
If applicable, mark control motors (different versions
Electronic parts catalogue).
Remove bolts (D) from
V158 (
V159) (A) and detach control motor.
Installing
Attach control motor to retaining plate.
Install retaining plate (C) with control motors
V158 (
V159
) and
V109 (
V108) (see the separate procedure).
Note
Before installing the retaining plate with the control motors, check the position of the control motor levers. The retaining plate can only be installed properly if the levers are in the service position (see the separate procedure).
Re-install components in reverse order of removal.
Interrogate fault memory of front operating and display unit (
Climatronic control unit
J255
) and erase any faults displayed
Guided Fault Finding function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
Perform air conditioner basic setting (and if applicable final control diagnosis)
"Guided Fault Finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
