Removing and installing rear final drive 0D2, Audi Q7 — AUDI
Removing and installing rear final drive 0D2, Audi Q7 on Audi: 22 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Taking the rear final drive 0D2 out of an Audi Q7 4M (2015 onwards; the 8W code is also listed below) needs an engine and gearbox jack VAS 6931 with the universal gearbox support, because the unit has to come down level. The propshaft comes off the final drive first, then a cover and the left drive shaft heat shield, and both drive shafts are unbolted from the flange shafts and swung aside. Cars with air suspension need the cover for the air supply unit removed. With the jack under the final drive, the mounting nut, the bolt and the securing bolts are removed and the unit lowered. The refit is the reverse, with the bolt started hand-tight before the securing bolts are tightened, and it ends with a check of the gear oil level.
🧭 Before you start
On the lifting platform, the propshaft is detached from the final drive, the cover and the left drive shaft heat shield are removed, the drive shaft bolts on both sides are undone and the shafts guided out of the flange shafts. On air suspension vehicles the air supply unit cover comes off. The nut is removed, the jack VAS 6931 with universal gearbox support is positioned under the final drive, the bolt and the securing bolts are removed and the unit is lowered. For installation the unit is raised into position, the bolt fitted hand-tight, the securing bolts tightened, then the bolt and nut; the jack is removed, drive shafts, heat shield and propshaft refitted, the gear oil level checked and the underbody trim fitted.
Fits: Audi Q7 (4M, 2015–), Audi A4 B9 (8W, 2015–)
- Opens: gearbox oil
Don't miss
- Use the engine and gearbox jack VAS 6931 with the universal gearbox support; the final drive must come down level.
- Air suspension cars: remove the cover for the air supply unit before the mounting nut.
- On refitting, start the bolt hand-tight, tighten the securing bolts, then tighten the bolt and nut.
- Drive shafts are refitted and tightened per the drive shaft procedure, not by feel.
- Check the gear oil level in the final drive before the underbody trim goes on.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
