Removing
Remove heat shield above propshaft.
Remove heat shield for propshaft from cover for Torsen differential -arrows-.
Check for presence of a factory mark (coloured dot -arrows-) at the prop shaft and at the rear axle drive flange/prop shaft. If there is no mark, make a coloured mark on rear axle drive -B- to indicate the position of prop shaft flange -A-.
Note:
This marking is only required if same propshaft is to be re-installed later.
Release fastening bolts for prop shaft flange.
Cut out the assembly device 3298, as illustrated in Fig.
Remove the three upper securing bolts from each constant velocity joint on the propshaft.
Loosen securing bolts of centre propshaft mounting slightly.
Engage assembly device 3298 and tighten plastic nuts.
Note:
Never fit assembly appliance onto balance plates.
Remove securing bolts of flange to gearbox and to rear final drive as well as securing bolts of centre propshaft mounting.
Slide propshaft together towards rear final drive. The constant velocity joints move along their axes.
Guide out propshaft with assembly appliance past gearbox flange.
Note:
Only transport and store propshaft when extended.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:
Notes:
It is essential that the locking fluid remaining in the threads in the flange shafts on the gearbox and rear final drive is cleaned out after removing the propshaft. Otherwise there is a danger that the new bolts will seize when they are screwed in and then shear if they have to removed later.
The threaded holes can be cleaned with a thread tap.
Renew gaskets on flange shafts (detach protective foil and stick gasket onto flange shaft). The adhesive surface must be free of grease.
To prevent imbalance, install flanges of prop shaft -A- and rear final drive -B- in such a way that the factory markings (or coloured markings made on removal) are in a line -arrows-.
If a new propshaft is installed and if the factory colour marking on the flange of the rear final drive is no longer visible the radial run-out on the propshaft flange must be measured => Page
39-86
and the colour marking on the propshaft placed in line with the new marking on the flange.
After removing the propshaft from the rear final drive, the additional balance disc (thicker washer) that may be located between the lock plate and the bolt head must not be reinstalled.
Replace prop shaft bolts (self-locking).
Adjust propshaft after installing => Page

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
