Removing and installing motor for luggage compartment cover — AUDI

Removing and installing motor for luggage compartment cover on Audi: 25 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

The power luggage compartment cover on the Q7 (2015 onwards) is driven by a motor mounted with guide rails at each side of the boot, and the motor comes out together with the rails. The luggage floor, lock carrier trim, side trims and D-pillar trim panels come off, the motor connector is unplugged, and the rail mountings are unbolted on both sides with the Bowden cables unclipped from their brackets. Refitting is where the care goes: the rails are positioned and their fasteners only started, then tightened in the stated order at the motor and at the rail. Once the trim and the actuators are back in, the function is checked; if the two actuators do not run parallel, the Bowden cable routing is checked and the adjuster turned until they do.

25 steps

🧭 Before you start

Remove the luggage floor, lock carrier trim, side trims and D-pillar trim panels, then unplug the motor connector. Remove the nuts and bolts on both sides, unclip the Bowden cables and lift out the guide rails with the motor. Position the assembly, start bolts (1, 2) and nut (3) on each side, then tighten in sequence at the motor and at the guide rail. Clip in the cables and actuators, refit the trim and check the function, adjusting the Bowden cable until the actuators are parallel.

Fits: Audi Q7 (4M, 2015–)

Don't miss

  • Fit the guide rail fasteners loosely on both sides before tightening anything.
  • Tighten in the stated sequence: 1, 2 at the motor, then 1 to 3 at the rail.
  • Secure each actuator in the guide rail with its spreader pin.
  • If the actuators are not parallel, check Bowden cable routing before using the adjuster.
  • Check the cover runs fully open and closed before refitting the floor.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
