Removing and installing intermediate drive on Audi: factory workshop procedure. Full factory text, tools and checks.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
The following special tools and testing devices are required:
Drip tray V.A.G 1306
Unscrew front cross piece -arrow 1- beneath exhaust system.
Vehicles with 5-cylinder TDI engine:
Removing front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter
Vehicles with 6-cylinder engine:
Removing front left and right exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and intermediate pipe

Unscrew heat shield -arrow 2-.
Secure bushing, dished washers and parking lock gear (attached to differential pinion shaft) to stop them falling out.
Place drip tray V.A.G 1306 underneath.
Unscrew bolts -arrows-.
Pull off intermediate drive towards rear of vehicle.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
Check sealing surfaces of housing for damage.
Coat new gaskets thinly with Vaseline, place on sealing surface of housing and secure.
Before installing intermediate drive, check that dowel pins -1- in intermediate flange are properly seated. Dowel pins locate intermediate flange in relation to automatic gearbox housing and intermediate drive housing.
If sleeve, dished springs and parking lock wheel have inadvertently been pulled off drive pinion shaft:
Fit parking lock wheel with shoulder facing drive pinion.
Insert two dished springs in each case so that their outer circumferences touch each other.
Insert sleeve with shoulder towards drive pinion.
Fit intermediate drive onto input shaft and drive pinion shaft.
Notes:
Take care not to damage the splines on the input shaft and drive pinion shaft when installing the intermediate drive. If necessary, turn the shafts carefully.
Intermediate drive can only be pushed on by hand as far as roughly 3 mm from housing of automatic gearbox. The dished springs on the drive pinion shaft are compressed when the components are brought closer together. Tighten the bolts uniformly to close the gap gradually, and then tighten to final torque in diagonal sequence.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
