Removing and installing headlight fan V407/V408: Audi A3
Step-by-step removing and installing headlight fan V407/V408 for the Audi A3: 10 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The headlight fans V407 and V408 sit inside the headlight housings on the Audi A3 (8V, 2012–2020) and the 85 platform listed below, and are reached through the housing cover from the front wheel arch. Before touching anything, the light switch goes to 0, the ignition and all consumers are switched off and the key removed, and the headlights must not be flashed. The front wheel housing liner then comes out, the housing cover bolts are removed, the cover lifted and its connector unplugged. Two more bolts free the fan, which is pulled out and disconnected. Getting the housing cover sealed properly when it goes back is what keeps moisture out of the lamp.
🧭 Before you start
Switch the lights to 0, turn off ignition and consumers and remove the key. Remove the front wheel housing liner, unbolt and lift off the housing cover, and unplug its connector. Remove the fan bolts, take the fan out of the headlight housing and disconnect it. Refit in reverse, closing the housing cover and tightening its bolts.
Fits: Audi A3 (8V, 2012–2020); platform code 85

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
