📋 Procedure

Removing and installing
gear selector position P switch
F305
The
gear selector position P switch
F305
consists of two microswitches. The two microswitches provide the signal required by the electronic ignition key removal lock to release the key only in selector position P.
The first microswitch is closed when the
selector lever lock solenoid
N110
is not actuated in selector position
“P”
, (brake pedal not depressed) and the manual release of the selector lever below the ashtray is not operated.
The second microswitch is closed when the button on the selector lever handle is not operated in selector position
“P”
.
Note the following points before renewing
gear selector position P switch
F305
:
The two microswitches are connected in series, i.e. both switches must be closed before the ignition key can be removed. The microswitches can be checked with the
vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system
VAS 5051A
in the Guided Fault Finding. After performing the vehicle system test, go to Function /Component Selection and select the test program
“F305 - Gear selector position P switch”
(Powertrain / Automatic gearbox / 01 - Self-diagnosis compatible systems / 02 - gearbox electronics / electrical components).
It is also possible to perform an electrical check on the microswitches. When performing a continuity test using a multimeter, note that the resistance is approx. 470 Ohm with both switches closed.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
