- Wear protective goggles when sawing.Cover area of separating cut with a cleaning cloth.Dispose of oil and cloth via existing disposal channels.
📋 Procedure
- Open pop-up roof and support with suitable workshop equipment.
- Insert a small screwdriver beneath spring clip (2).
- Raise spring clip (2) just enough until it can be moved over ball socket in direction of (arrow).
- Pull gas strut (1) off ball-head pins (3) and (4).
- ⚠ Take care when reusing gas strut. Do not lever spring clip entirely out of ball socket. This can damage the spring clip. Gas strut will spring out of mounting, causing damage or injury to operator. — Pull bellows beading (3) in front area out of peripheral retaining strip (4) as far as half way along roof. [Note: At some points (i. e. transitions between the front/rear roof reinforcement and the profile rails), sealant must be applied to the bellows beading (3) before inserting the bellows beading into the lower peripheral profile (4).Note that if the bellows beading becomes damaged in the removal process, the bellows must be renewed completely.]
- Install gas strut (1).
- Lower pop-up roof (2) slightly.
- Press bellows beading (3) back into peripheral retaining strip (4).
- Clamp gas strut in vice in area x = 50 mm.
- ⚠ Clamp gas strut only within area -x-; otherwise danger of accident! — Saw open strut cylinder in first third of total cylinder length, starting from the reference edge on the piston rod side. Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
