Removing and installing front seat backrest - standard seat, convenience seat, sports seat — AUDI
Removing and installing front seat backrest - standard seat, convenience seat, sports seat on Audi: 11 steps.
Separating the backrest from the seat pan on standard, convenience and sports front seats is done on the bench, here for the Audi Q5 (8R, 2008–2017) and the other platform code listed below. The seat comes out of the car first, and since it carries the side airbag, static has to be discharged before connectors are touched. With the seat on repair stand VAS 6136, both side trims come off, the backrest wiring connectors are separated, the rubber straps at the base of the pan are unhooked and the bolts removed. The backrest is then swung forward and the side airbag harness drawn through the pan. On reassembly, every connector has to go on to its stop and click, and reconnecting the battery follows the safety sequence.
🧭 Before you start
Discharge static, remove the seat and mount it on VAS 6136. Remove both side trims, unplug the backrest harnesses, unhook the rubber straps and remove the bolts. Swing the backrest forward, ease the side airbag and other harnesses out of the pan and lift it off. Reassemble in reverse, then refit the seat and reconnect the battery following the safety steps.
Fits: Audi Q5 (8R, 2008–2017); platform code 83
Don't miss
- Discharge static by touching the door striker before handling airbag connectors.
- Push the side airbag and other harnesses aside carefully through the pan padding; do not pull on them.
- Every connector must go on to its stop and engage audibly.
- Before switching on the ignition, select P, apply the parking brake and connect a battery charger.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
