Removing and installing front reinforcement for front door — AUDI

Removing and installing front reinforcement for front door on Audi: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

On the Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011) the front reinforcement for the front door sits in the door aperture and is held by bolts and a bead of adhesive, so it is part bolted, part bonded. The rear-door anchorage reinforcement and the hinge cover reinforcement come out first, then the adhesive bead is cut through with a sharp knife, the bolts are removed and the front reinforcement lifts out. Refitting is where the time goes: threaded holes have to be cleaned of old locking fluid with a tap, the old sealant is trimmed back but deliberately not removed completely, foam strips are checked, and the new part is bonded with one-component window adhesive applied all round onto clean, grease-free surfaces.

11 steps

🧭 Before you start

Remove the rear-door anchorage and hinge-cover reinforcements, cut the adhesive bead, take out the bolts and lift the front reinforcement away. Before refitting, chase the threaded holes with a tap, inspect the foam strips and trim the remaining sealant back with an oscillating cutter. Insert the new reinforcement and bond it with one-component window adhesive applied all round, keeping the contact faces clean.

Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)

  • Renewed: if necessary

Don't miss

  • Clean locking-fluid residue out of the threaded holes with a thread tap before installing.
  • Trim the old sealant back but do not remove it completely; it forms the base for the new bead.
  • Check foam strips for damage and renew them if needed.
  • Keep bonding areas free of dirt and grease or the adhesive will not hold.
  • Run the adhesive bead all round as shown, with no gaps.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
