Step-by-step removing and installing flange shaft (left-side) for the Audi Q7: 24 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi Q7 (4M, 2015–)
- Opens: coolant
- Also covered elsewhere: Electronic parts catalogue
Don't miss
- Unscrew nut and move guide link clear at wheel bearing housing (counterhold at joint stud with a TX 40 socket if necessary).
- Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clips (as original equipment); refer to Electronic parts catalogue.Additional components must be removed in order to install the flange shaft.
- Place a cloth underneath to catch escaping coolant.
- If oil seal (arrow B) between differential and gearbox housing is damaged, it must be renewed .
- If the oil seal is damaged, it must be renewed.(Arrow A) can be disregarded.
📋 Procedure
- Drain off gear oil in front final drive .
- Remove front wheel (left-side) Running gear, axles, steering44Wheels, tyres.
- Remove subframe shield (left-side) Running gear, axles, steering40Subframe; Removing and installing subframe shield.
- Remove bolts (arrows) and detach heat shield for drive shaft (left-side).
- Unbolt drive shaft (left-side) from gearbox flange shaft and move it towards rear Running gear, axles, steering40Drive shaft; Removing and installing drive shaft.
- To protect thread of joint stud, unscrew nut (arrow) from joint stud of guide link until it is flush with thread of joint stud.
- ⚠ Falling parts can cause injury. The track rod ball joint detaches abruptly from the wheel bearing housing when it is pressed out; place the engine and gearbox jackVAS 6931 or similar underneath to hold it in place. — Press joint stud of guide link out of tapered seat using ball joint puller T10444, taking care not to damage boot.
- Unscrew nut and move guide link clear at wheel bearing housing (counterhold at joint stud with a TX 40 socket if necessary).
- Move brake hose (arrow) clear at bracket and push to one side.
- Unscrew bolts (arrows) on mounting bracket for flange shaft.
- Push wheel bearing housing forwards slightly and detach flange shaft (left-side); on vehicles with air suspension, ensure sufficient clearance for boot of air spring. [Note: Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clips (as original equipment); refer to Electronic parts catalogue.Additional components must be removed in order to install the flange shaft.]
- Remove subframe cross brace Running gear, axles, steering40Subframe; Removing and installing subframe cross brace. [Note: Place a cloth underneath to catch escaping coolant.]
- Clamp off coolant hoses using hose clamps up to 25 mm3094 and disconnect hoses (release hose clips (2, 3)).
- Unscrew bolts (arrows) and push ATF cooler to one side (hoses (1, 4) remain connected).
- Pull cover (1) off bottom of gearbox (arrow).
- Thoroughly clean flange shaft (left-side), area of torque converter bellhousing leading to differential (arrow A), and oil seal (arrow B). [Note: If oil seal (arrow B) between differential and gearbox housing is damaged, it must be renewed .]
- Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half-full with sealing greaseG 052 128 A1.
- Slide flange shaft (left-side) (1) into gearbox in direction of (arrow B) (keep end of shaft centred while guiding it into oil seal (arrow) on front final drive). [Note: If the oil seal is damaged, it must be renewed.(Arrow A) can be disregarded.]
- ⚠ Splines on flange shaft can damage oil seal (arrow) between final drive and gearbox housing.Keep flange shaft centred. — Install drive shaft Running gear, axles, steering40Drive shaft; Exploded view - drive shaft.
- Install heat shield for drive shaft Running gear, axles, steering40Drive shaft; Removing and installing heat shield for drive shaft.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
