Removing and installing fan mounting with fans: Audi 2.0 TDI (BDJ, BMM, BST)

Step-by-step removing and installing fan mounting with fans for the Audi 2.0 TDI: 13 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

On the Caddy III (platform code 2K0) with the BDJ, BMM or BST engines, the radiator fans come out as one assembly with their mounting, dropping down from underneath. The noise insulation comes off, then the air duct cover and the bottom air duct with its hose. The air mass meter G70 is unplugged, the vent and duct hoses pulled off, and the air filter housing is unbolted and lifted out. With the air duct unbolted from the lock carrier, the fan connector is separated and the support bolts removed so the whole unit can be lowered. On the bench the wiring is freed and the fans are unbolted from the support. Release the duct clasps rather than forcing them, and clip the wiring back as found.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the noise insulation, then unclip the air duct cover and the bottom air duct with its hose. Unplug G70, pull off the vent and duct hoses and remove the air filter housing, then unbolt the air duct from the lock carrier. Separate the fan connector, remove the support bolts and lower the fan support with fans out underneath. On the bench, free the wiring and remove the nuts holding the fans. Install in reverse and run the fans to confirm they work.

Fits: VW Caddy III (2K, 2004–2015)

Don't miss

  • Release the locking and retaining clasps on the air ducts rather than levering them off.
  • Unplug air mass meter G70 before moving the air filter housing.
  • The fan support comes out downwards, so remove the noise insulation first.
  • Clip the fan wiring back into the support exactly as found to keep it off the blades.
  • Run the fans after assembly to confirm both speeds work.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
