Removing and installing driver side windscreen wiper motor V216 with wiper motor control unit J400 — AUDI
Removing and installing driver side windscreen wiper motor V216 with wiper motor control unit J400 on Audi: 11 steps.
On the platform code listed below, the driver side windscreen wiper motor V216 is combined with wiper motor control unit J400 and is removed from the front left wheel arch rather than from the scuttle. The left wiper arm comes off first, then the front left wheel housing liner. The mounting bolts are removed, the connector is unplugged and its wiring moved aside, and the motor is withdrawn at the wheel housing. Installation is the reverse, but the job is not finished until the wiper arms are adjusted and, for a new motor, the control unit is activated through the diagnostic tester's own-test routine. Skipping the activation is the usual reason a new unit does not run correctly.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the left wiper arm and front left wheel housing liner. Unbolt the motor, unplug and move the wiring clear, and detach the motor at the wheel housing. Refit, adjust the wiper arms, and on a new motor activate the control unit via diagnosis mode, the test plan and the own-test selection.
Fits: Audi R8 (4S, 2015–)
Don't miss
- Adjust the wiper arms after the motor is refitted.
- A new wiper motor requires its control unit to be activated with the diagnostic tester.
- Move the wiring clear so it is not trapped when the motor goes back in.
- Refit the wheel housing liner with all its fasteners.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
