Removing and installing dash panel: Audi A6 C6

Step-by-step removing and installing dash panel for the Audi A6 C6: 129 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Removing the complete dash panel from the Audi A6 C6 (4F platform) is a long strip-down, best planned as a day's work with a second pair of hands. The driver airbag and steering wheel come off first, with the battery disconnected while the ignition is switched on for that step. After that comes the steering column trims and switch module with control unit J527, the vents, light switch, instrument cluster trim with cluster and MMI display, Climatronic control unit, entry and start switch, glove box, CD changer if fitted, and both front and rear centre consoles. Then the A-pillar trims and the dash bolts. Two things decide whether it goes back right: marking the steering wheel position and keeping wiring and cable ties exactly where they came from.

🧭 Before you start

Set the column and seats for access, disconnect the battery and remove the driver airbag and steering wheel. Strip the column trims and switch module, vents, light switch, cluster trim with MMI display, Climatronic unit, glove box and both centre consoles. Remove A-pillar trims and the side and centre dash bolts, then lift the dash out with a helper. Refit in reverse, checking clip buffers, and carry out the post-battery reconnection measures.

Don't miss

  • Disconnect the battery with the ignition on when removing the airbag, as specified for this job.
  • Mark the steering wheel position on the column before removal; refit only with wheels straight ahead.
  • Discharge static by touching the door striker before unplugging airbag connectors.
  • Cap the fibre-optic connector with VAS 6223/9 when the CD changer is unplugged.
  • Re-attach all cable ties at their original positions; a second mechanic is needed for the dash itself.
  • Check the dash panel and airbag combination is correct before final assembly.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
