Removing and installing C-pillar trim: Audi A6 C6
Step-by-step removing and installing C-pillar trim for the Audi A6 C6: 29 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
On the Audi A6 C6 (platform code 4F, 2004–2011) the C-pillar trim is tucked under the curtain airbag, so removing it takes more stripping than you would expect. Roof end trim, D-pillar trim, rear seat backrest, side padding and the rear shelf on that side all come off first. Then three bolts are released, the trim is unclipped and drawn out from beneath the curtain airbag, the belt guide is slid back as far as it goes and the trim is passed out over the seat belt. Refitting, the threaded holes are cleaned of old locking fluid, the clip is checked for damage and the trim is pushed under the airbag without trapping it. New bolts go in at the specified torque, and the belt guide must click when pulled forward.
🧭 Before you start
Access work is the bulk of it: roof end trim, D-pillar trim, rear backrest, side padding and the rear shelf on the side concerned. The three bolts come out, the trim is unclipped, eased out from under the curtain airbag and lifted over the seat belt once the belt guide has been slid rearwards. Before refitting, old locking fluid is run out of the threaded holes with a tap and the clip inspected. The trim is fed under the airbag, clipped, bolted with new bolts to the specified torque, the belt guide pulled forward until it engages, and the stripped parts go back in reverse order with the door seal lip laid over the trim.
Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)
Don't miss
- Observe the curtain airbag safety precautions; the trim must not trap or damage the airbag going in.
- Run a tap through the three threaded holes to clear old locking fluid before fitting new bolts.
- The bolts are renewed and tightened to the specified torque; their washers sit below the metal plate.
- Check the clip is neither damaged nor deformed and is positioned correctly before the trim goes on.
- Slide the belt guide fully rearwards for removal, then fully forwards until the retaining tab audibly clicks.
- Where the steps mark bolts as set by the manufacturer, do not turn them.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
