Removing and installing bumper (rear) — AUDI
Removing and installing bumper (rear) on Audi: 28 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 3.5 Nm (2.6 lb-ft) | When installing, tighten bolt |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Cover (rear) removed.
- Press catches upwards and gradually pull trim strip out of cover.
- To remove, unscrew all bolts and nuts and unclip from guides (left and right). Then detach towards rear. [Note: On new bumpers (from approx. week 12/2006 onwards) the distance between the threaded studs has been changed. On older vehicles with a larger distance between the holes, you must therefore drill an additional hole in the rear cross panel with the same diameter and with the distance corresponding to the distance between the threaded studs.]
- Measure the distance between the threaded studs on the new part.
- Drill hole into rear cross panel as shown (arrow) (distance between holes corresponds to distance between threaded studs).
- Protect edges of holes against corrosion.
- Seal old hole using an appropriate plug (1) or a protective film.
- Install bumper.
- Tail light cluster in bumper removed .
- Towing bracket cover removed.
- Remove bolts (1) and (4).
- Use screwdriver to release clip from guide and unclip spoiler to the side and outwards.
- Starting from the outer edge and working inwards, gradually unclip spoiler from bumper cover to the side.
- Unplug electrical connectors .
- Detach spoiler from cover by pulling forwards.
- Secure spoiler at the rear and attach toward the rear, keeping it centred and straight.
- Plug in electrical connectors.
- Align spoiler centrally and insert into cover.
- Clip into cover, starting from the centre and working outwards.
- The retainer hooks (outer left and outer right) must engage.
- Bolt spoiler onto wheel housing liner.
- Install tail light cluster in bumper.
- Install towing bracket cover. [Note: After locking fasteners, make sure slots on fastener heads are in the same position.]
- Unclip cap (2) and remove bolt (3).
- Pull out tail light cluster in bumper (1) and unplug electrical connector.
- When installing, tighten bolt to 3.5 Nm. — 3.5 Nm (2.6 lb-ft)
- Use screwdriver to release clip from guide in direction of arrow and pull spoiler (2) out of cover (1) to the side.
- Unclip whole spoiler (3) from cover (1) and unplug connector (2). [Note: Cross member and towing bracket form a single unit and can only be renewed as a complete assembly.]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
