Removing and installing bumper (front): Audi Q7
Step-by-step removing and installing bumper (front) for the Audi Q7: 34 steps, 7 torque figures. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what.
On the Q7 (4L, 2005–2015) the front bumper splits into cover, impact bar, impact dampers and spoiler, and this procedure covers each. The cover comes off after the wheel housing liners are released up to the wing joint, the locking pins taken out and the bolts at the lock carrier and noise insulation removed; it then unclips at the wings and pulls forward. The number plate carrier unclips with its connector. Behind it, the impact bar on bolts (1) and the dampers on bolts (4) come away. The spoiler can be removed without touching the cover. The one thing that turns a bumper job into a calibration job is ACC: moving the impact bar or its retainer means the adaptive cruise control must be adjusted afterwards.
🧭 Before you start
Release the wheel housing liners to the wing joint, take out the locking pins, remove the lock carrier and lower bolts, unclip the cover at the wings and pull it forward; on ACC cars break the foam along its line. Unclip the number plate carrier, then remove the impact bar and impact dampers. For the spoiler, unclip it from the side inward and pull it forward. Refit with the air duct under the spoiler inlets, retainer hooks engaged, and tighten to the listed torques, 60 Nm for bolts (4) and 6 Nm for bolt (2).
Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)
- Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
- Special tools named: locking pin
Don't miss
- On ACC cars, adjust adaptive cruise control after removing the impact bar or changing its retainer.
- Take out locking pin (1) before removing the cover.
- Impact damper bolts (4): 60 Nm; bolt (2): 6 Nm; bumper bolts: 23 Nm.
- Small trim bolts need only 1, 1.5 or 4 Nm; do not overtighten.
- Air duct goes under the spoiler inlets and the outer retainer hooks must engage.

🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 1 Nm (0.7 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts (1 |
| 1.5 Nm (1.1 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts (3) |
| 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts for bumper (left and right) (arrow |
| 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) | Tightening torque |
| 4 Nm (3.0 lb-ft) | Tighten nuts (1 |
| 6 Nm (4.4 lb-ft) | When installing, tighten bolt (2) |
| 60 Nm (44 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts (4) |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Disconnect wheel housing liner in area of bolts and up to joint with wing panel .
- Detach locking pin for cover on inside .
- Remove bolts (2) at lock carrier.
- Unscrew bolts (3) at wheel housing liner and noise insulation (bottom) .
- Unclip cover at joint with wing panel out of guide, moving it towards side.
- Detach cover from vehicle towards the front. [Note: The spoiler at the bottom cover can be removed without having to remove the cover first .]
- Remove bolts on wheel housing liner up to joint with wing panel.
- Locking pin (1) must be taken out before removing cover.
- On vehicles with »ACC« you must break out a piece of foam along the break-away line (arrow).
- Unclip number plate carrier from retainers gradually towards the front.
- Unplug electrical connector to number plate carrier.
- ⚠ For vehicles equipped with adaptive cruise control (ACC) please observe the following:If the impact bar is removed and re-installed, or if changes are made to the retainer for the »ACC«, the adaptive cruise control system will have to be adjusted 44. — Bumper cover removed
- Unscrew bolts (1) and pull out impact bar (5).
- To remove impact damper (3) unscrew bolts (4).
- Unscrew bolt (2) and remove impact damper.
- When installing, tighten bolt (2) to 6 Nm. — 6 Nm (4.4 lb-ft)
- Tighten bolts (4) to 60 Nm. [Note: To remove the spoiler, it is not necessary to remove the bumper cover.] — 60 Nm (44 lb-ft)
- Noise insulation removed
- Unclip trim panels for fog lights.
- Remove bolts for spoiler at wheel housing liner.
- To remove, gradually unclip from bumper cover (side and front).
- Detach spoiler from cover by pulling forwards.
- Release air intake grille (2)(arrow) and pull it out of the bumper (1) in direction of (arrow). [Note: To remove the spoiler, it is not necessary to remove the bumper cover.]
- Noise insulation removed
- Unclip trim panels for fog lights.
- Remove bolts at wheel housing liner.
- Use screwdriver to release clip in direction of arrow and unclip spoiler to the side and outwards.
- Starting from the outer edge and working inwards, gradually unclip spoiler from bumper cover to the side.
- Detach spoiler from cover by pulling forwards.
- Secure spoiler at the rear and insert toward the rear, keeping it centred and straight.
- The air duct must be inserted below the air inlets at the spoiler (arrow) as shown.
- Align spoiler centrally and clip into cover, starting from the centre and working outwards.
- The retainer hooks (outer left and outer right) must engage.
- Install noise insulation and bolt spoiler onto wheel housing liner.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
