Removing and installing brake carrier — AUDI

Removing and installing brake carrier on Audi: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This is the backplate (brake carrier) behind the caliper on the vehicles with the platform code listed below. To get to it, the wheel, brake pads and caliper come off; the caliper is hung up with wire so it does not hang on the brake hose. The backplate bolts are then removed and the plate lifted off. On refitting, the pad contact surfaces on the plate are cleaned and any corrosion removed before the pads and caliper go back. Two points decide the job: clean dry contact surfaces so the pads slide freely, and pressing the brake pedal firmly several times with the car stationary before driving so the pads are in their working position.

9 steps

🧭 Before you start

Remove the wheel and brake pads, take off the caliper and tie it up clear of the hose, then unbolt and remove the backplate. Clean the pad contact surfaces and remove corrosion, refit the backplate, pads and caliper and fit the wheel. Pump the pedal firmly several times and check the fluid level.

Fits: VW Caddy IV (SA, 2015–2020)

  • Opens: brake fluid

Don't miss

  • Never let the caliper hang on the brake hose; support it with wire.
  • Clean only with methylated spirits and never blow brake dust out with compressed air.
  • Remove corrosion from the pad contact surfaces on the backplate.
  • Press the brake pedal firmly several times with the car stationary before driving.
  • Check the brake fluid level after the pads have been refitted.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
