Removing and installing bracket for alternator: Audi A1 (ANY, BUJ, BYH, CMPA, …)

Step-by-step removing and installing bracket for alternator for the Audi A1: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

On the A1 (2010–2018), across engine codes from ANY and BUJ to CZZA, the alternator bracket bolts to the cylinder block with a sliding bush that tends to stick. The poly V-belt and alternator come off first, then the bracket bolts, leaving bolt (2) in the bracket. The sliding bush is pulled by fitting an 18 mm bit with 3/8" drive against it and screwing an M8x50 bolt in to its stop, after which the bolt is removed and the bracket detached. Two checks decide the refit: the dowel sleeves that centre the bracket must be present in the block, and the sliding bush has to move freely, because a stuck bush leaves the bracket under-clamped even at the correct torque.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the poly V-belt and alternator, then the bracket bolts, leaving bolt (2) in place. Pull the sliding bush using an 18 mm bit and an M8x50 bolt screwed in to the stop, remove the bolt and detach the bracket. Check the dowel sleeves in the block and that the sliding bush moves easily, then refit the bracket, alternator and poly V-belt.

Fits: Audi A1 (8X, 2010–2018)

Don't miss

  • Bolt (2) stays in the bracket during removal.
  • Check the centring dowel sleeves are in the cylinder block; fit new ones if missing.
  • The sliding bush must move freely; a stuck bush gives insufficient clamping even at correct torque.
  • Screw the M8x50 bolt in only as far as it will go to draw the bush out.

  1. Remove bolt again and detach bracket for alternator.
  2. Check whether dowel sleeves for centring bracket for alternator are fitted in cylinder block; install dowel sleeves where necessary. [Note: Ensure that sliding bush in bracket for high-pressure pump moves easily (unstick if necessary); otherwise clamping force of sliding bush will be insufficient even at correct torque.]
  3. Install alternator Electrical system27Alternator; Removing and installing alternator.
  4. Install poly V-belt .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
