Removing and installing battery, vehicles with petrol engine — AUDI

Removing and installing battery, vehicles with petrol engine on Audi: 12 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what.

This is the battery removal on the petrol-engined vehicles for the platform codes listed below, where the air filter housing sits over the battery. Follow the correct disconnect and reconnect sequence for the car, pull out the dipstick and take off the engine cover, then disconnect the battery. The air filter housing comes out next: loosen the spring clip and pull off the vacuum hose, undo the housing bolt, pull off the suction hose and lift the housing out of its brackets. Lift the battery box wall away (later cars use heat insulation round the battery instead), remove the clamping plate bolt and plate, and lift the battery out by its grips. The clamping plate bolt takes 20 Nm; a loose battery suffers vibration damage and is a crash-safety risk.

🧭 Before you start

Pull the dipstick, remove the engine cover and disconnect the battery. Take out the air filter housing after releasing the vacuum hose, bolt and suction hose. Lift the battery box wall, remove the clamping plate and lift the battery out. Install in reverse, tightening the clamping plate bolt to 20 Nm, checking the battery is firmly seated, and reconnecting it in the correct sequence.

Fits: VW Caddy III (2K, 2004–2015); platform code 2C0

Don't miss

  • Tighten the battery clamping plate bolt to 20 Nm.
  • Check the battery is firmly seated after installation — a loose battery suffers vibration damage.
  • Follow the specified disconnect and reconnect procedure for the battery.
  • Refit the vacuum hose and spring clip on the air filter housing before closing up.
  • Newer vehicles have heat insulation around the battery instead of a box; refit it the same way.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
