Removing and installing battery cooling module condensation drain — AUDI

Removing and installing battery cooling module condensation drain on Audi: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This condensation drain belongs to the battery cooling module on the hybrid version of the Audi A6/A7 (4G, C7) and related 4X platform, so the work starts with a visual check of all high-voltage components and wiring, and no cutting, sharp or heat tools are allowed near them. With the cooling module moved to its service position, the plastic ring fasteners are released, the drain pressed into the battery recess and guided out of its bracket. On refit, the plastic ring orientation matters: the lug must fit its recess before the drain is pressed into the body until it clicks, and the recess must be sealed. Afterwards, faults in the climate and battery regulation control units are read and erased.

9 steps

🧭 Before you start

Inspect the high-voltage parts and move the battery cooling module to service position. Release the plastic ring, press the drain into the recess and guide it out of the bracket. Fit the drain with the lug in its recess, press it into the body until it engages, check its position, then interrogate and erase the fault memories with the ignition on.

Fits: Audi A6/A7 C7 (4G, 2011–2018); platform code 4X

  • Renewed: condensation drain

Don't miss

  • Visually inspect high-voltage components first and keep sharp or hot tools away.
  • Renew the drain if the plastic ring is damaged.
  • Line up the lug with its recess and press the drain in until it clicks.
  • Seal the battery recess with silicone adhesive sealant if the grommet does not seal fully.
  • Read and erase faults in J255 and J840 afterwards.

📋 Procedure

  1. ⚠ Risk of fatal injury if high-voltage components are damaged.Observe the following when working in the vicinity of high-voltage components or wiring:It is not permitted to use cutting or forming tools, other sharp-edged tools or heat sources such as welding, brazing, soldering, hot air or thermal bonding equipment. Before starting work, visually inspect the high-voltage components in the areas involved. Before working in the engine compartment, visually inspect the power and control electronics for electric driveJX1, electric drive motor V141, air conditioner compressor V470 and high-voltage wiring. Before working on the vehicle underbody, visually inspect the high-voltage wiring and covers. Before working on the rear section of the vehicle, visually inspect the high-voltage wiring and the electro-box with the maintenance connector for high-voltage system TW . Visually inspect all potential equalisation lines.Check the following when making the visual inspection:There must be no external damage on any component. The insulation of the high-voltage wiring and potential equalisation lines must not be damaged. There must be no unusual deformation of the high-voltage wiring. All high-voltage components must be identified by a red warning sticker. — Move battery cooling module to service position .
  2. Carefully release fasteners (arrows A) of plastic ring and press condensation drain (1) into battery recess.
  3. Guide condensation drain (3) out of retaining bracket (2)(arrow B). [Note: Renew the condensation drain if the plastic ring is damaged.Seal the plastic ring with silicone compound if slightly out of shape.]
  4. Pay attention to installation position when fitting plastic ring:
  5. Guide condensation drain (7) into retainer so that it engages; lug (5) must fit in recess (6).

  1. Fit condensation drain (1) into body opening and press in until it engages audibly. [Note: If the grommet does not completely seal off the battery recess, apply silicone adhesive sealantD 176 001 A3 or similar at this location Electronic parts catalogue. The bonding surface must be clean and free from grease when applying the silicone adhesive sealant.]
  2. Check correct positioning of condensation drain.
  3. Switch on ignition.
  4. After installation, interrogate event memory of operating and display unit (Climatronic control unit J255) and battery regulation control unit J840 and erase any faults displayed in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
