Removing and installing balancer shaft module — AUDI

Removing and installing balancer shaft module on Audi: 24 steps, engines CFPA, CJKA, CJKB. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

The balancer shaft module on the Transporter T6 platform codes (7EA, 7FD) with the CFPA, CJKA or CJKB engine is driven by its own timing chain, and getting to it means opening the front of the engine completely. The upper timing chain cover, noise insulation and lower cover come off, then the camshaft timing chain with its guide rail and tensioner. The balance shaft chain tensioner, tensioning rail and two guide rails follow, and the chain is lifted off. Before refitting, the intermediate shaft sprocket and balance shaft are turned to their markings, and the coloured chain links must line up with the marks on the sprockets. Getting that alignment right, and checking it again once the tensioner is in, is the whole job.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the upper and lower timing chain covers, noise insulation and camshaft timing chain with its guide rail and tensioner. Take out the balance shaft chain tensioner, tensioning rail, both guide rails and the chain. Turn the sprockets to their markings, fit the chain with the coloured links on the marks, refit the rails and the tensioner with locking fluid, and check the adjustment again. Then refit the camshaft chain, covers, poly V-belt tensioner and belt.

Fits: VW Transporter T6 (7E), VW Transporter T6 (7F)

Don't miss

  • Coloured links on the timing chain must sit exactly at the markings on the sprockets.
  • Turn the intermediate shaft sprocket and balance shaft to their markings before fitting the chain.
  • Fit the balance shaft chain tensioner with locking fluid.
  • Recheck the adjustment after the tensioner is fitted, before the camshaft chain goes back on.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
