Removing and installing backrest cover and padding - individual seats — AUDI
Removing and installing backrest cover and padding - individual seats on Audi: 16 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
On the Audi A8 D4 (4H) with individual rear seats, the backrest cover and padding come off together once the seat frame or rear backrest is out, the head restraint guides are removed and the rear side airbag is taken off. The cover is held by a tensioner at the bottom: unclip the fastening strip from it with a screwdriver, unhook the tensioner pressure spring at its clip, then unclip the tensioner from its pin. Release the piping from the seat frame and the fastening strip from the pressure distribution plate of the upper backrest adjuster. Then unplug the connector, lift the pneumatic valve block off with its lines still connected and release the line catches on both sides. Seat heating, if fitted, unplugs before the padding is pushed forward and unclipped.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the seat frame or backrest, head restraint guides and rear side airbag. Free the cover from its tensioner, spring and pin, release the piping and the strip at the upper adjuster plate, then unplug the connector and move the pneumatic valve block clear on both sides. Unplug seat heating if fitted, push the padding forward, unclip it and lift off cover and padding. On refit, make sure the cover has no creases.
Fits: Audi A8 D4 (4H, 2010–2017)

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
